Piano Lessons
for Students with Special Needs
Ages 5+

Here at Piano with Miranda I work with students of all ages and different needs. I have worked with students with Autism, Anxiety, Depression, ADHD and Muscular Dystrophy. It is my belief that music is available to anyone!

Lessons are customized even further for students with special needs. We are not in a hurray when it comes to piano lessons. It's the quality of the music and the benefits of music lessons that we look at rather than how quickly a student progresses.

I can adjust sensory in the studio as needed-lower lighting, decreased volumes and fidgets/calming items for students.

Benefits of having music lessons with a Neurodivergent child are the same as other children but with added advantages:

-
Sensory Regulation:
Music can be calming or energizing, depending on the individual's needs. It can help regulate sensory input, which can be particularly helpful for students with sensory processing sensitivities.
-
Emotional Expression and Regulation:
Music provides a safe and accessible outlet for expressing and processing emotions.
-
Cognitive and Motor Skills:
Activities like playing instruments, especially those with repetitive movements like the piano can enhance cognitive and motor skills.
-
Social Skills and Collaboration:
Group music activities can foster social interaction and collaboration, which can be beneficial for students who may have social challenges.
-
Focus and Attention:
Certain types of music can help improve focus and concentration, which can be helpful for students who struggle with attention.
Daytime Piano Lessons. Students are able to be excused from school for up to 2 hours of private music instruction per week as part of the Education Act of Ontario. Feel free to schedule your lessons for daytime lessons if you are available!!
